During our testing, we opened multiple apps together and switched between them randomly. The Panasonic Eluga Prim didn't show any deterioration in performance. Apps launch quite fast and overall performance is quite good. Multi-tabbed browsing in Chrome works as it should as well.
Now let's talk about the camera experience of the Eluga Prim. In a nutshell, we liked the imaging performance of the smartphone.
The 13MP primary camera takes really good pictures in well-lit conditions. Colour reproduction is accurate and images are fairly sharp. Night shots are surprisingly good too.
We found the call quality on the Panasonic Eluga Prim to be quite alright and there had no issues using it in areas of weak signal reception such as basements.
However, the smartphone suffers from heating issues. We played heavy games like Asphalt 8 and the device started getting heated up within minutes. It gets warm even after about half an hour of calling. We hope this issue is rectified with a future software update.
Coming to the fingerprint sensor of the device, we found it to be fast. It's possible to save up to five fingerprints on the device.
Battery life isn't really the greatest with the Panasonic Eluga Prim. It barely lasted us till evening on a full charge, even when our usage wasn't heavy.
Verdict
We think that the Panasonic Eluga Prim is a fairly decent smartphone. But its negatives such as mediocre battery life and heating issues bring the whole experience down. Within the same price range, users can go for devices such as
Panasonic Eluga Prim review: Could have been better
Avani Bagga | Gadgets Now | Updated: Jan 28, 2017, 04.36 PM ISTThe budget smartphone segment in India is already an overcrowded one. But that doesn't seem to stop manufacturers from continuing to launch new handsets in the market.
Panasonic recently launched its Eluga Prim smartphone in the country at a price of Rs 10,290. We spent a few days with the device and here's what we think about it.
Build and design
The Panasonic Eluga Prim's design seems to be highly inspired from the Apple iPhone. But then, a lot of smartphone manufacturers take design cues from the iPhone so it's not necessarily a bad thing. The smartphone comes in two colour variants - White & Gold and Black & Gunmetal Grey, with our review unit being the former.
The smartphone's front panel is dominated by a 5-inch HD display of 720x1280 pixel resolution. Above it lie the earpiece, a 5MP selfie camera and Panasonic branding. A clickable button with an integrated fingerprint sensor is placed below the display.
Flipping the Eluga Prim reveals a textured removable back panel, along with the 13MP primary camera and LED flash. Below that is Panasonic Eluga branding.
The volume rocker and power buttons are placed on the right edge, while the 3.5mm audio jack and USB port are on the top. The bottom edge has the speaker grille.
Summing things up, we'd say that we liked the overall look and feel of the Eluga Prim, even if it's nothing original. That said, the circular rim around the primary camera and the textured back panel look good.
Coming to the display, we found it to be quite good. It shows bright and vibrant colours and due to the small screen size, there isn't too much pixelation. The display isn't reflective and has decent sunlight legibility, along with good viewing angles.
Performance
The OS on the Prim doesn't really have that much of customization. However, it does come with some preinstalled apps like Google Keep, Hotoday, Saavn, Xender and Ethnic However, these apps can be uninstalled easily.
