Moto X Play launched in India starting at Rs 18,499; features 5.5-inch display, 21MP camera

Motorola has launched the Moto X Play smartphone yesterday at an event in New Delhi. I was unable to watch it due to some health issues, So today first thing in the morning I did was see it.

The Moto X Play 16GB variant will be priced at Rs 18,499 while the 32GB variant will be priced at Rs 19,999. Both devices will go on sale starting today at 12am via e-commerce website Flipkart. At the same event, the company also announced that the Moto X Style is expected to launch soon.

In terms of specifications, the Moto X Play will come with a 5.5-inch full HD display thereby giving it a pixel density of 400 ppi.The device will come with Qualcomm Snapdragon 615 SoC featuring a 1.7GHz octa-core processor paired with 2GB of RAM. Just like the Moto X Style, this will also feature 4G LTE support, Android 5.1.1 with the same Motorola software features, 21MP rear and 5MP front facing camera.

The video capture mode of the the Moto X Play is limited to full HD mode and its front camera won’t get a dedicate flash unit. But the Play will come with a staggering 3,630mAh battery which according to Motorola will offer a 48 hours of mixed use time. The Moto X Play is expected to come in 16GB and 32GB variants only with the option to expand the storage via a microSD card slot.

The Moto X Style will be more expensive than the Moto X Play, but will also offer a slightly better spec than its sibling.

In terms of specifications, the Moto X Style will come with a 5.7-inch Quad HD display with a resolution of 1440 x 2560 equalling 520ppi. The camera and the software will be same as the sibling. Under the hood is a Qualcomm Snapdragon 808 processor clocked at 1.8GHz paired with 3GB of RAM. Storage options are either 32GB or 64GB and then there's 128GB microSD support on top of that.

The battery is a 3,000mAh cell that Motorola claims will last the day. The most exciting part is Turbo Charging that can charge your phone for 10hours of use from just a 15 minute charge.

What I'm eager about is will Moto Maker come to India?
