Battle of the Midrangers: Xiaomi Mi4 and Micromax Canvas Knight 2!

Battle of the Midrangers: Xiaomi Mi4 and Micromax Canvas Knight 2!
+Gundu Yapral one of my readers requested me to compare the midrangers Xiaomi Mi4 and the newly launched Micromax Canvas Knight 2As I couldn't write the review about the Xiaomi Mi4. I found this as an amazing opportunity to provide you'll with my views on both the Smartphones!

Micromax has officially forayed into Xiaomi's midrange territory with the launch of the Canvas Knight 2 smartphone. This is a 4G LTE capable handset of course and there are multiple rivals in the industry that could prove to be tough competitors for the Canvas Knight 2.

I may take a look at one such competitor, Xiaomi to better assess the true potential of the newly launched midranger by Micromax.

I personally hate using the MiUi, but to be honest it does fare well while taking into consideration the customizability it provides.

As you can see from the list above, the new launch fares well in terms of hardware but fails to deliver in the software department. The Canvas Knight 2 will obviously receive price cuts over the coming months, but as it stands, it's not quite up there to threaten the Xiaomi Mi4.

Which one's better is completely dependent on how you use it and what are your need for a mid-range phone! Tell me which one's better in the comments below.

OnePlus 2 invite registrations cross one million mark in mere 72 hours

OnePlus launched the much talked about OnePlus 2 in the world’s first virtual reality launch event on July 27. The Chinese company has promoted over a million people to register for the new device in a mere 72 hours. At the launch event, the company had stated that it sold 1.5 million OnePlus One smartphones since its launch. In comparison, then new phone has already received such a huge number of registrations or an invite to purchase the latest OnePlus 2.

OnePlus will be hosting a pop-up event in New York, San Francisco, London, Paris, Berlin, Milan, New Delhi, Bangalore, and Jakarta on July 31 where fans can experience the new OnePlus 2 smartphone.

The 64GB OnePlus 2 will be available for purchase with an invite in India starting August 11, exclusively on Amazon. The 16GB OnePlus 2 with 3GB LPPDR4 RAM will be available later this year.

The company has also taken out the logo from the front. It sports a 5.5-inch 1080p display. As promised, the smartphone also comes with a fingerprint scanner and USB Type-C port. The fingerprint scanner is faster than the iPhone TouchID and lets you save up to five fingerprints, says OnePlus.

The colour mode will let you select custom accents colours, or even use dark mode. The OnePlus 2 has a 3300mAh battery.

A recent report suggests that after the launch of OnePlus 2, the company plans to offer a price drop for the OnePlus One. In conversation with Business Today, Vikas Agarwal, General Manager, OnePlus-India confirmed that the company will not discontinue any storage variant of the OnePlus One. However, he stated that consumers can expect a price drop for the OnePlus One in the coming days.

Google Translate got way smarter; the app now supports 20 more languages

Google Translate got way smarter; the app now supports 20 more languages
Source: Google Blog
Google Translate is even more useful now. Google now adds 20 new languages for its mobile translation application that reads text and converts it into another language of your choice. With the new additions, the company has expanded from mere 7 languages to 27 languages. The update is rolling out for both iOS and Android.

According to the Google blog, the new languages include Bulgarian, Catalan, Croatian, Czech, Danish, Dutch, Filipino, Finnish, Hungarian, Indonesian, Lithuanian, Norwegian, Polish, Romanian, Slovak, Swedish, Turkish and Ukrainian.

Additional tweaks improve the speed at which voice translations are made, especially in area with poor 3G network. Google’s picture mode translation, which requires a snapshot of text, can operate in 37 languages.

Source: Google Blog
The report explains that to try out the new languages, users can read to the Google Translate app, set ‘English’ along with the language you would like to translate and click the camera button. Users will be prompted to download a small language pack worth 2MB for each.

In conversation with TechCrunch, Julie Cattiau, Product Manager for Google Translate says, “Our mission is to help overcome language barriers. Whenever someone faces an obstacle due to encountering a second language, we want to be there to help solve the problem. Within that mission, our most important project is improving the quality of machine translation. But part of that is also the overall user experience, which is why we also invest in things like instant camera translation and multi-language conversation.”

Microsoft’s Windows 10 launches today: Here’s a checklist to follow before you upgrade

Microsoft’s Windows 10 launches today: Here’s a checklist to follow before you upgrade

Microsoft is revamping Windows. It’s newest flavour of the Windows operating system launches today. 29 July is marked on many calendars across the globe. Given that it’s the first time Microsoft is making a major release a free upgrade, it’s quite interesting! There’s a catch though. All genuine users of Windows 7 and Windows 8.1 are eligible for the free upgrade for up to a year.

Eligibility check

According to Microsoft, the Windows 10 operating system will be available as a free upgrade for qualified devices running Windows 7 and Windows 8.1. Yes, for free!

You may be desperate to claim something that is available for ‘free’ on the first day itself. And you need to decide whether or not you want to. The launch day is tomorrow. But you might just want to wait it out.

Before you decide to upgrade it’s important to understand the real deal behind Windows 10.

Check your system specifications

If you decide to not wait it out and opt-in for the upgrade, you will need to ensure that you run the latest update of the operating system. If you run Windows 7, then you should have installed SP1. If you haven’t, you can download it here. Similarly, if you are on Windows 8, then the Windows 8.1 update is a must to be eligible for the upgrade to Windows 10.

The minimum hardware specifications to run Windows 10 are as follows:

Processor: 1 Gigahertz (GHz) or faster processor or SoC
RAM: 1 Gigabyte (GB) for 32-bit or 2 GB for 64-bit
Hard disk space: 16 GB for 32-bit OS or 20 GB for 64-bit OS
Graphics card: DirectX 9 or later with WDDM 1.0 driver
Display: 1024×600

How do you upgrade?

I'd written before on how you could reserve your update for the new Windows 10. Here's in short for readers who haven't read it.

Assuming you have weighed all factors that need to be considered, and have decided to upgrade to Windows, all you need to do is install the Get Windows 10 app.

You could click on the Windows icon on the Windows icon on the system tray (at the right end of the taskbar).

Once you click on the same, you can Reserve your free upgrade!

What if you don’t upgrade?

You can still buy Windows 10! Windows 10 Home edition will cost you $119 (Rs 7,000 approximately). In comparison, Windows 10 Pro edition will cost you $199 (Rs 12,000 approximately). If you prefer upgrading from the Home edition to the Pro edition, you can opt for a Windows 10 Pro Pack at $99 (Rs 6,000 approximately).
